Petersfield Quaker Worship Group

Quaker meetings can be held anywhere; in Petersfield we have wandered from garden to garden. Every meeting begins in silence. We use it to open ourselves to the wisdom that comes out of stillness. It enriches us and shapes us, individually and collectively.

We used to meet in a large wooden garden room at the back of Winton House. You could sit in Meeting watching the blackbirds going back and forth with food. At our Christmas party there, someone brought a guitar and we sang "where have all the flowers gone?" and played games. 

From there we moved to another garden room, this time at Bedales School. It was somewhat cold and the chairs were hard. The children's meeting was across the road in Gwen Hunt's tiny kitchen, and one week the older children went back to Judith’s home and cut up old cotton frocks and made cushions and backrests for those hard chairs. 

For several years we met in the former Infants school in Petersfield, before moving back to Winton House, where we shared the space there with Age Concern and a coffee shop. More recently we sat together in a Mongolian yurt in Alice and Ben's back garden, in true nomadic style. And then another garden room, this time in the lovely Physic Garden.

You are welcome to join us in living adventurously where we now meet in Petersfield Methodist Church on the third Thursday of every month.

You will be joining a group of seekers who come together in a living silence uncluttered with formal words, seeking a link with the spiritual power that is part of us all, that some call God. Our roots are in Christianity, but our strength is community and caring, not creeds and prescribed beliefs. You will be very welcome, wherever you may be on your spiritual journey.
